Off topic Apple Cider

The only one?

No! Follow the link I gave to the wiki page about Scrumpy and Western, and you'll find this paragraph:

Other artists whose music is Scrumpy and Western in flavour include The Yetties from the village of Yetminster in Dorset, The Golden Lion Light Orchestra from Worcestershire, Fred Wedlock, Who's Afear'd (also from Dorset), the Skimmity Hitchers (a group that includes former members of Who's Afear'd), the Surfin Turnips (more punky folk), Trevor Crozier, the Yokels (from Wiltshire), Shag Connors and the Carrot Crunchers, and the Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra.

My husband is from Somerset and I have a West Country married surname. Scottish me finds this all highly amusing!

Playing Oktoberfest Party tonight, got drafted for playing at accordion/polka themed race tomorrow, 4 hour farmers market Tuesday. When am I ever going to make the pear cider?

So yeah, played with sheet music as guide last night. Today I just stood there for a full hour, playing by heart polkas and uptempo tunes while the runners crossed the finish line. Every gig is a learning opportunity. Really, (for me) it’s best to have the tunes firmly in (muscle) memory. For some reason I constantly f up while trying to play from the music. Plus I pass over tunes in the book that I don’t think I will nail. Lesson learned - take the time to memorize everything. And I see how tunes come about. In standing there playing for an hour, I spent plenty of time “noodling” in polka time over chords. Some ideas I could make into tunes. Plus I made $100. Not bad. Thanks for listening. Four hour gig again Tuesday.
