Hi, I'm new to music and accordion. I would like to ask your opinions about Hohner Concerto II N 72 basses. how good or bad is it? is it good for beginners? Also why I couldn’t t find much information and references for this instrument in the internet

I had a Concerto II S, 72 basses which I think is similar, just a narrower keyboard maybe? It was a good solid instrument, and I liked the tone. But I found for me it was neither one thing nor another - it was too big and heavy (for me) to play outdoors for folk dancing, but at the same time it was limited to just musette/not musette registers - so for performances when I'm indoors sat on a stool and weight doesn't matter so much it was a bit lacking. I sold it and now have a Weltmeister 48 whichi I use for outdoors 'strolling', and a Concerto IIIN for playing indoors, evenings in pubs, etc. Compared to the IIN it has a extra bass register in both bass and treble sides, which adds quite a lot to the sound.

NB: I've only been playing accordion for a year, so my opinions are only those of a beginner!

I used to have one, it's a nice instrument, but the important thing is, do you like it? You should only play an instrument that you love, given the amount of time you're going to spend with it.

From my Hohner Concerto I traded up for a 96 bass Sonola, which I liked better, and now have a 96 bass Cooperativa.

Debra do you believe the HOHNER XS is also a good choice for a beginner;
Saw and played one in real life at the Hohner Trossingen factory. This accordion is made to introduce accordion to children. The hand position is strange, sound is weak, reeds are pretty mediocre and its over-priced for what it is. You would be better off finding an older accordion in good condition.
