Reason behind omitting the diminished chord buttons?

Really putting the cat amongst the pigeons now, but a far more important topic for me is, why are some able accordionists so reluctant to use any bass note other that the Root? Depending on which bass note is chosen, the Dim chord is a 4 note Dim7. IMO this where the power of the Stradella lies, not chord plus chord combining, but Bass to chord combining.

Ive been following this topic with a lot of interest.
Id also be interested in thoughts on use of bass notes other than the root - Ill take the liberty of starting a new discussion on that....

Meanwhile back at the Diminished Chord Ranch.....

Donn, I wouldnt get hung up on whether its a 3 or 4 note chord, the Dim chord does it job, and this is the system thats in place and it seems to offer plenty of scope. Do you feel that the current system sounds wrong in some way?

Now Im not sure what youre talking about. The question Ive been trying to ask is, if Galla-Rini was paying homage to rules of harmony, what are those rules, specifically having to do with the 5th? Rules? Anything that sounds like a rule and has something to do with harmony and 5th? Thats all.

I like the current system - on my accordion, which is 3/5/7, like the 80 bass Mengozzi that has been somewhat anonymously featured at some points in this thread. Its great as far as Im concerned. Having no other accordion for comparison I cant say how Id like the sound of a 1/3/7 dom7, seems like it might be lacking in some way but Im not aware of any complaints.

I misunderstood your point. and a little study of 4 part harmony might answer your question? I used to know about this stuff when I was a kid, its largely gone now, but there was a rule about avoiding parallel 5ths that may have something to do with it.

I went for some keyboard lessons a while back to help with a project, I was advised that the 5th is largely a waste of a note, and also to avoid octaves, or notes that take up space but dont add anything to the overall sound. The way I think about the stradella is to use it it get as close as possible to the sound that I expect to hear, it is a compromise after all.
