We're having a little contest, running until the end of March. Please feel free to enter - see the thread in the "I Did That" section of the forum. Don't be shy, have a go!
I was thinking of replacing the grill cloth on my accordion. Are there any brands of cloth that are recommended or is it fine to look for any type of acoustically transparent cloth like a speaker cloth?
I use bookbinders 'mull'. It's an open weave linen, stiff, used for …bookbinding. Look for a bookbinding supplier. I cut it using a rotary cutter, or scissors. Not a knife.
I note that you are in the USA, there are plenty pf store that sell all kinds of cloth, yes you just should try to use one that is acoustically transparent... unless you own a Hohner Atlantic IV and want to cut down on the shrillness a bit.

I often check fabric stores but thrift shops sometimes sell remnants. First I cut out the piece to the right size. Wendy Morrison showed me how to use spray adhesive on the back side of the grille.
