And I quote.....

"America’s top-selling beer is no longer American.

Modelo Especial, the Mexican lager brewed near Mexico City by Constellation Brands, became the top-selling beer in May, overthrowing Bud Light from the top spot it has held for more than two decades."

The very fact that Bud Light has been number 1 for "decades" truly concerns me and points out, imho, the reason people hate Americans. Yeah, really makes me retihnk that move to Scotland, where, presumably people drink real beer.

I'm not much of a drinker, but I do have periods where I will have one beer a night for about a month. Then not have another for 6 months. I used to drink Guinness. One day, we were in Disney World and had a dinner reservation at a sit down restaurant. It was hot. We were walking all day. I was tired. I ordered a Michelob Ultra and it was the most enjoyable beer I ever drank. Not because it tasted good, but because it was so refreshing at the time. I don't know if I've ever had a Bud Light, but I started buying Miller light because it's easy to drink especially after cleaning the boat in the 90 degree heat.

Hmmmmm, Iron Brew? Any good? I usually go with Corona (like the dba), or Spotted Cow (only sold in Wisconsin). When out, I usually try a local brew IPA. Now that I'm "old" I tend to be more of wine snob, but still love a cold beer on a hot day.

Back in Pittsburgh, everyone drank Iron City Light. Of course, with the Pittsburgh dialect, they just called them 'Arns'.

I've had a few, mostly 70 shilling around Glasgow.
A scottish friend was playing keyboards in a band and I was a (free) roadie.

Saw some very interesting venues and narrowly avoided several diseases (I was young and stupider).
But it was my introduction to 70/- and 80/- (70/- means 70 shillings and no pennies).

even in Pittsburgh, some of us drank Rolling Rock in those little green bottles
that would get SOOOOOOOOOO cold if you stuck them up to their necks
in the snow on your Porch Roof just outside a certain underage accordionists bedroom

Yeah, good ol' Pennsyltucky "swollen ****." And rooted for the Iggles too. I lived in PA for a few years in the 70s. The less said about it the better!

Oh yeah, how could I forget? Brewed in Latrobe, PA. (Well, until it was bought by Anheuser-Busch).

Well Tom, don't know many Americans, but the ones I have spoken to here are supportive of each other, often funny and have a gentle and articulate way.

I also think you might like Scotland, especially the Highlands.

By the way Tom, the big orange can of Irn Bru is a fruity flavoured, fizzy soft drink. It is very popular. Scotland is also well known for Whisky. There was a brilliant TV advert by Robert Carlyle on the beverage. Check this out - a masterclass on walking, talking and perfect timing...

As for me, I enjoy a glass or two of beetroot juice every day. Silky smooth with a mild, earthy finish...

Followed by a short walk down the lane...20230528_150621.jpg
But luckily I don't have any monologues to remember.

Laterz. ;)

Interesting! I've been known to have a nip now and then.... Didn't we have a forum member by that name?

At least you didn’t have to resort to this fine Pittsburgh beer, best left not on the roof but beneath the basement

that's the one !

i don't know the name of the March they played on the Iron City commercials,
but i can whistle it !

Don't forget Nasty Gansett, Hi neigjbor! the btew of my youth which has somehow, beyond all expectations, rrached a level of nationsl hipsterness. I suspect it's like accordion buoiding. Thete are only 2 compsnies making sll these formerly independent beers. Now we hsve to drink "local brew ipas.

It is Budweiser's fault. Letting a transgender be the new face of Bud was a huge business mistake. Of course they would lose their top spot!
