  • We're having a little contest, running until the end of March. Please feel free to enter - see the thread in the "I Did That" section of the forum. Don't be shy, have a go!

I don't NEED another accordion.

I sat on the rug
Biding my time, drinking her wine
We talked until two
And then she said, "It's time for bed"
She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh
I told her, "I didn't," and crawled off to sleep in the bath
And when I awoke....

(it's been done)

I keep finding myself coming back to this thread. I just bought another accordion. This time it is a small, red, unbranded accordion that I was able to get for pretty cheap. This may sound weird but I wanted something that wasn't necessarily the best quality so I can feel better about taking it around places. I met someone who referred to this as a "trunk accordion" because he never took it out of his car no matter the temperature. I didn't realize until I bought it that it doesn't have shoulder straps. It only has a thumb strap so that will take some getting used to. Does this mean it is more used for genres like Irish jigs? It should be arriving sometime tomorrow but this is one of the photos on this listing.1739383845190.png

I have a free bass converter,a button box(can’t play either) and a stradella. Sometimes I dream about coming into a fortune and purchasing a really expensive accordion with all of the switches on it. Then I realize that owning a 12,000 accordion won’t make me a better player-so I’m able to put away that thought.

Collecting is an entirely different thing. Having to liquidate my mother’s place which is stuffed with the most beautiful things-all now headed to the garbage-I don’t want to leave this stuff for someone down the road to have to throw out. I understand the passion in collecting-but not the idea that a more expensive instrument will make me a better player.

I can relate to this. Both because of all the things my late mother left (he passed away last August) and for my own collection of electronic test equipment, radio equipment, synthesisers and keyboards, which clogs all and every storage space on my house.

And now, planning to get into accordions, I am fighting the urge to buy a learning one and a full size one 🤔

So, well, I hope to keep my newly found hobby at a reasonable level... But know it will be difficult 🙃

That's where I started but then I found myself looking online for used local accordions and now I have 6 accordions after 1 year of playing.

Believe it or not, yesterday my dad sent me a picture of him holding a John Kuchar accordion. Apparently, he just decided to buy on impulse so now we have 7 accordions. Currently, I'm still at college but now I'm really looking forward to trying it out when I go home for break this weekend. This picture is from the original listing but it seems to be in very good physical condition and it appears to have a mic already installed. My dad made it sound like there may need to be a little bit of service because it makes a little noise when the bellows move. Screenshot_20250225_101549_eBay.jpg

Beautiful!!!!!!

I'm sure this has happened to other people plenty of times, but I just came across an accordion I would absolutely love to have. It's a very old model so accordions in that good of condition are very uncommon. There is a 4 row Hlavaček posted on Facebook Marketplace that I think looks really pretty. Only issue is the price, it is listed far over what I would ever want to spend on an accordion. I believe it is priced at $2,300. If I ever did spend that kind of money, I would probably want it to be new as well. In general, I just love the sound and aesthetic of Hlavaček accordions.1000002930.jpg1000002929.jpg1000002928.jpg

Just think that you do not have to keep every accordion that you buy, and do not worry if you sell them at a loss, you will possibly make a loss if you keep them anyway.
I have had more than thirty accordions but never more than three at a time.
