I have been humming those wretched notes and still can't think of the words, let alone the title.
Does it go like this :

C F G A E D E D E D
C D E C D E C D

If not, then I've been humming the wrong tune

Nearly.

How about
CF GA EDEDED CCCC DDDD B♭[/font]

Hint
The song is not French but its title is

Still doesn't help. I've tried going down to E and up to E, major and minor, and still can't get it.
There's always the possibility that I don't know the tune !!

The notes are what they are (I did not leave out sharps or flats).
Let me give two small hints: it is not sad music and the composer may not be the first you think of.

One more tip... The title is in English but the composer was German (was implies that he died, not that he changed citizenship).

A few more notes then...

G EC G EC AA G G EC G ECEsCEsD
And they are all in the same octave (starting from C).
Now it should be easy (with all the hints combined).

Im going to give it a bit more time. Put all the tips together: its all in one octave, its not a sad song, its from a German composer who already died, he may not be the first you think of but let me add that he composed and performed many many songs during his long life. He lasted for long enough to be considered quite famous.
I cannot say more. Im practically giving it away.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this tune, but, a you say, you have given lots of clues. I think I've worked out that the composer must be James Last and one of his many pieces titled 'Happy ...'. Is it 'Happy Music' ?

Well done, Geoff - I'd never have guessed it, even with all the clues (must use crossword brain next time !)
James Last is a voice from the past (!) I remember hearing his music many, many years ago when I lived in Germany.

Yep, I said I was practically giving it away bit indeed it is Happy Music (not sad music), the composer who isnt the first to think of and who lasted a long time is James Last... I thought this was making it too easy.
For those who still dont know what this is:
Happy listening!

So Geoff, your turn!

The artist is still alive and performing (in 2016, anyway) and is hidden further up this page
