I dont know what it is yet but I tried this on YouTube and it certainly does not match the notes.
Lets keep thinking...

It sounds a lot like the base line from The Beatles Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. (The Beatles are hidden earlier in the thread but I dont think this song is from 7 years earlier...)

I didnt think for a moment that it was the Monkees !!! It just reminded me.
So were looking at something from around 1959 .....

Count me out. I was only born that year and not yet concentrating on music all that much in my first year on this globe.

The song describes a condition that I haven't found myself in since 1984. :(
Also, the artist's name is not included in the thread but it is on the page.
The notes I gave were the melody and exclude the preliminary Ooo Aah's

If no answers by the end of the evening, I'll post the notes of the chorus

Well done with your tries so far, the start of 'I'm a believer' is certainly very similar

"I'm on strike", by The Members. No I'm only joking, I've got no idea. I've been trying it in different rhythms, a bit of Latin. It may turn out I know this one after all, but one of the interesting things about this game is how we don't all know each others' well known tunes... reminds me of the days at the clubs when people would say "play something we know", and I'd think, you play something I know then. Anyway on with the game!

Is it "A Teenager in Love "?

...why must I be A Teenager in Love

Artist = Dion..... as in AccorDIONists

The clues all seem to match. The notes are close too. I hear GGGABAACCCBAG but that B isnt very clear, so maybe it will be considered correct. We may know soon...

Well Done Reedwarbler. That's it
The notes didn't sound quite right to me either - they're not the notes I play but it's what's on the official sheet music.
I think the melody gets confused in my brain with the accompaniment - either that or Dion isn't singing the tune as written.
Your turn

I would agree that there sometimes is a difference between what is heard and what is written.

As I tend to play by ear I can only go by what I hear.

So here goes CCCCCCCCDC

Ill give you a clue....its not the one note Samba
Also I have excluded the intro.

Assuming sharps and flats are not written and Dis and Es are the same this could be El Cumbanchero (by Rafael Hernández).
After the intro that would be CCCCCCCCDisC (but we don't write the sharp so dat is then CCCCCCCCDC).
So the first question now is whether the D is indeed a D (in which case it cannot be El Cumbanchero) or whether it can be Dis or Es.

If it's a D# could it be the Trumpet Hornpipe (aka Captain Pugwash theme tune)?

D is not a sharp. I would write it as such if it were. ( I thought that we were writing sharps & flats, I have done so previously)
